Ruth Constance Specht, 85, Barton, Digby County, died February 1, 2000, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Barton, Digby County, she was a daughter of the late Adolph and Lillie (Haight) Specht. She attended the Brighton and Barton School and at age 17 she began teaching with a premissive licence, then at 18 she attended the Provincial Normal College. After teaching 15 years in various schools including Digby Junior High, she went to Wallaston, Mass., where she graduated with a bachelor of science in 1951, from the Eastern Nazarene College. Her teaching continued in Nova Scotia, in various schools such as Blandford, Lunenburg County; Principal, Clark's Harbour, Shelburne County; New Germany Rural High School, Lunenburg County; Central Colchester High; Sheet Harbour; Windsor; Caledonia; and Weymouth, marking 40 years of teaching. When she retired, she built her home at Barton, Digby County, where she passed a busy life, having guests for 15 summers and five years caring for seniors. During her teaching years, she spent summers under the Baptist Home Mission Board, doing daily Vacation Bible School work. She also spent a number of years on the Provincial Marking Board. Surviving are sister, Margaret, Halifax; brother, Lloyd, Barton. She was predeceased by brothers, William, Edison, Harold; sisters, Minerva, Sara. Funeral 3 p.m. today, in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch Street, Digby, Rev. Vernon Marsh officiating. Burial in Barton Community Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to any charity.
